About The CAA

About the Organization

The CAA was formed in 1961 and celebrates its 49th year of operation in 2010. Rumour has it that the late Bill Gooderham created the demand for this new hot boat back in the early '60s, simply by planing back and forth on the Muskoka Lakes. Wide-eyed cottagers apparently lined up with cheque books in hand at the end of their docks to place an order for the Albacore (then imported from England) following his display.

Since 1961, the association has helped to establish and promote the class in Canada. Although at present the majority of association members are located in the Toronto area, Albacores have a habit of turning up in the most unexpected places!

Our main event each year is the Canadian Championships, usually scheduled in mid-September. This three-day event provides an opportunity for Albacore racers to participate in a friendly, yet highly competitive regatta. For more information, go to our Events page.

Another primary activity of the Association is publication of our quarterly newletter, "Shackles and Cringles." Editor Christine Short has done a great job, and will be on the prowl looking for article submissions, and other incriminating tidbits from the membership.

For more information on joining the CAA, please go to our Membership page.
