Full and Associate Members

There are two types of individual Canadian Albacore Association (CAA) membership available: Full membership for owners of Albacores; and Associate membership for non-owners of Albacores.

Full membership for owners of Albacores

CAA Full Members pay annual dues of $60 ($75 after April 30) , plus supplemental dues for participation in certain events.

As a CAA Full Member you support the Albacore class and community!

Additionally, Full Membership entitles you to:

  • Participate in CAA sanctioned/run racing series and events. CAA events include:
    • Canadian Albacore Championships
    • North American Albacore Championships
    • International Albacore Championships
    • Toronto's Friday Night Race series
    • Toronto's Harbour Master race series.
  • Participate in CAA training, courses, and other events!
  • Post classified ads for gear/equipment at albacore.ca.
  • Vote at our AGM on issues affecting the Albacore class.
  • Run for CAA executive positions.
  • Free sail and hull measurement.
  • Support and enjoy Shackles & Cringles, our own community sailing magazine.
  • Sail at participating partner community clubs.*
  • Boat storage at participating partner clubs.*

 

Private Club CAA Partnership

If four or more CAA Full Members are members of a club, you're a fleet and your sailing club qualifies as a CAA Partner Club. We'll provide you with promotional support on albacore.ca and can arrange clinics and workshops in your region. We look forward to working with you to grow Albacore sailing in Canada.

Associate membership for non-owners of Albacores

Associate Members pay an annual fee of $27.

Associate Membership entitles you to:

  • Participate in CAA sanctioned/run races and regattas.
  • Participate in CAA training, courses, and other events.
  • Post classified ads for gear/equipment at albacore.ca.
  • CAA communications.
  • Enjoy and support Shackles & Cringles, the CAA's own sailing magazine.

Attendance at CAA meetings.
Associate Members are not entitled to vote at the CAA AGM.

Community Club Members

Across Canada, several CAA-affiliated community clubs offer their members the opportunity to sail co-operatively owned Albacore sailboats.
 

Community Albacore clubs provide their members with amazing benefits:

  • Affordable recreational sailing.
  • Learn-to-Sail programs.
  • Fun, challenging racing and regattas.
  • Social opportunities and activities, including group dinners and parties.

If you're a full member of a CAA Member Community Club, you're already a CAA member and part of the Albacore community!

 

You're entitled to:

  • Participate in CAA sanctioned/run races and regattas, sailing a club-owned Albacore.
  • Participate in CAA training, courses, and other events.
  • Enjoy and support Shackles & Cringles, the CAA's sailing magazine!
  • Attend CAA meetings and run for election to the CAA executive.
  • Proxy voting at CAA meetings.*
  • Advertise gear/equipment in albacore.ca classified ads.

CAA Community Club Membership

CAA Community Clubs pay an annual fee for each co-operatively owned Albacore.

To qualify as a Community Club, the club must:

  • Own a fleet of at least 4 Albacore sailboats.
  • Offer an organized program of teaching or competition during the sailing season.

*CAA Member Community Clubs are entitled to assign proxy voting rights to one of their members for each Albacore owned by the club and for which annual CAA fees have been paid in full.

Benefits of CAA membership

Involvement with the Albacore community:

  • You will receive a subscription to our newsletter ‘Shackles & Cringles’ and get emails on matters of interest to Albacore sailors between issues of Shackles and Cringles.
  • You may vote at the Annual General Meeting and run for the Executive if you are a Full Member, and everyone is welcome to share their opinions with the Executive.
  • You can have access to the Albacore Forum where many topics of interest to Albacore sailors are discussed.
  • You are invited to attend social dinners during the sailing season at the following clubs. Please get in touch with the contact person first.

You are invited to store and/or launch an Albacore at the following Toronto Outer Harbour clubs for up to three days once a year for recreational sailing or to join the club racing. Arrangements must be made in advance.

Contact:

This is beyond the normal practice at regattas of providing space for participants to store and launch their boat(s).

Assistance

You can ask questions and receive answers to questions on rigging, boat purchases, finding a boat or crew for regattas, and all other Albacore-related issues.

You can get help with finding free accommodation for regattas and other races/events with members of the Albacore community.

Training

  • You can take training courses offered by CAA on such issues as race training (beginner, intermediate, or advanced ), race officials, dinghy rescue, boat repair etc.
  • You can request that the CAA provide race training and other workshops (e.g. boat repair, rigging, skills development), in your location.
  • You can have access to existing to training materials for member-provided training events

Racing

  • Participate and/or helm at CAA regattas and series
  • You can request hull and sail measurements for your Albacore
